Course aim

To enable students to develop specialised knowledge and skills in trauma-informed assessment and case conceptualisation for childhood trauma from abuse and neglect.

Course content

This course will include content related to comprehensive assessments and utilising a range of sources of information when assessing the impact of childhood trauma. Content will include the importance of considering bias within assessment, trauma-informed assessment interviews, consideration of diverse socio-cultural contexts within assessment and use of measurement tools to map and track trauma symptoms. Content will also cover the consolidation of assessment information into trauma-informed case conceptualisations. In addition, this course will cover how to assess a range of risks for children and young people exposed to abuse, such as self-harm and suicide risk and harmful sexualised behaviours.
