UO Principles of Responding to Childhood Trauma

Course aim

To develop specialised knowledge of the principles of effective therapeutic responding to children and young people who have experienced childhood trauma from abuse and neglect.

Course content

This course will teach specialised information regarding the central principles of practice when working therapeutically with childhood trauma. Namely the application of trauma-informed principles of practice; and evidence-informed and trauma-focused approaches to responding to childhood trauma. Content will include building therapeutic relationships and collaboration with children and young people who have experienced trauma, working with a child’s system, and ethical and legal requirements within this field. The relevance of inter-agency and multi-disciplinary engagement is covered. Reflective practice content is extended further than in the first course (Foundations of Childhood Trauma) and respect for diverse socio-cultural backgrounds is covered within this course.
