Course aim
To develop students' awareness, understanding and use of English in spoken and written language in different contexts.
Course content
The course focuses on word form and order; clause and sentence structure, grammar, punctuation and proofreading. Students are taught critical reading strategies which enable them to develop an understanding of how language is applied and constructed for different text types. Students are taught how to evaluate information sources and how to write in an academic register for developing argumentative paragraphs. Students will participate in a range of communicative group activities and be taught oral presentation skills.
