Course aim

To introduce the skill of academic writing to students who are new to the university learning environment with a focus on research and information literacy, writing conventions, essay and report writing structure and academic integrity. The course also aims to build learning strategies, study and career plans for the student’s future.

Course content

This course develops students writing skills for a range of academic purposes. They will gain skills in research and information literacy, identifying credible sources of information, structure and writing conventions, making and supporting an argument and using academic referencing conventions. They will learn oral presentation skills and develop confidence to present their writing to others and investigate future study and career opportunities.
