UO Introduction to Broadcasting

Course aim

To develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills in scriptwriting, audio and video production and editing, and an understanding of commercial, public and community broadcasting industries.

Course content

Students develop news gathering, writing and broadcast skills through the process of generating broadcast story ideas, conducting interviews, recording voice overs and vision, and using software to edit and compile audio and video news stories. Students learn to work in both mediums, developing transferable skills for use in a range of sound and visual platforms, and gain an understanding of the legal and ethical obligations of broadcast journalism.
