Course aim

To develop knowledge and enhance cultural competency of healthy ageing determinants and wellbeing strategies for older Aboriginal Australians.

Course content

Lifespan and age structure of Aboriginal populations; health impacts of ageing; social and cultural importance of older Aboriginal Australians; divergence in healthy ageing determinants for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal groups; prevalence of age-related diseases, urban and rural effects, definitions of healthy ageing for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal groups; Aboriginal Elder perspectives on healthy ageing; cultural safety in measuring health and wellbeing and in the provision of care to older Aboriginal people; international comparisons with ageing in other first nation peoples.
