Course aim

To provide the skills to interact with existing large sets that are structured or unstructured.

Course content

Topics in this course include: concurrency and transaction management; data organisation, hash, indexes, query optimisation, active databases, and procedures; distributed database design, fragmentation, and replication; distributed transaction; data warehouse architecture and components; data warehouse modelling: star and snow flake; analysis: multidimensional Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and relational OLAP; warehouse design, data uploading, updating and integration.
