Course aim
To enable students to identify and critically analyse discourses of resilience, engagement in meaningful activity of choice and leisure to promote wellness.
Course content
Students will develop a critical understanding of the discourses around engagement in activities of choice, leisure and the link to wellness in human services. There will be a focus on individuals who are older, vulnerable and/or living with impairment. Policy and programs around the medical and social models of ageing and disability and their impact on access to social roles, leisure and engagement in preferred activities will be explored. Students will evaluate the research evidence around the impact of engagement in creative, cognitive and physical activity on older individuals and those with impairments when transitioning across life phases.
