UO Introduction to Engineering Chemistry

Course aim

To introduce students to the basic concepts of chemistry as they relate to engineering and to provide them with
some experience of virtual practical work to the theory in the course.

Course content

Practical and theoretical studies of: properties of matter; physical and chemical changes; atoms, elements and compounds; structure and bonding; acids, bases and salts; redox; precipitation reactions; the mole; heat of reactions; metals, non-metals and their compounds. Periodic Table. Introduction to main engineering aspects of organic chemistry.
