Course aim

To develop in students a basic understanding of some fundamentals of fluid mechanics and heat transfer and the ability to apply these fundamentals to the analysis of common engineering systems.

Course content

Fluid Mechanics: Units and Dimensions; Fluid properties; Fluid Statics; One-dimensional Flow of Incompressible Fluids: Continuity, Energy and Momentum Equations; Flow Measurements, Laminar and Turbulent Flow, Ducts and Open Channels; Dimensional Analyses; Viscous Flow; Analysis of Pipe Flow Systems; Fluid Machinery
Heat Transfer: Introduction to Conduction, Convection and Radiation Heat Transfer, Applications of Heat Transfer.
