Course aim
To gain a knowledge of principles of building surveying and engineering, and develop skills in applying this knowledge to complex building assessment and inspection applications. To gain knowledge of the professional practice of the professional building surveyor in the Australian and international context.
Course content
Building Code of Australia Volume 1 and associated
Australian Standards.
The performance hierarchy in the design and construction of buildings.
Performance assessment of design and engineering solutions of buildings and
structures using scientific principles. Government and Private Certifiers'
duties and responsibilities. Statutory building control, certification (both
private and government), compliance with fire engineering and construction
codes. Construction and structural documentation. Site procedures, notices and
certification. Specific services and skills required in relation to proposed
buildings and developments, e.g. approvals and certifications. The role of BIM
in building surveying.
