Course aim

To introduce the fundamental networking concepts and technologies for the design and implementation of small to medium sized networks.

Course content

Introduction to networks, including topologies, devices, and characteristics of a small to medium sized network;
Basics of network protocols and communications;
The OSI and TCP/IP networking models;
Functions and standards of physical layer, and network media;
Data link layer, media access control, and Ethernet;
Network layer protocols and basics of routing;
Roles of transport layer and transport layer protocols;
IP addressing and subnetting IP networks;
Application layer protocols and services;
Considerations in network design, basics of network security and network management;
Basics of network operating systems and configuration of networking devices.
