Course aim
To introduce students to the development and exploitation of business analytics capabilities within an organisation, and to specifically develop skill in the application and use of business intelligence tools.
Course content
Business Analytics capabilities within an organisation: Data as an asset; data types and metrics; data-centric enterprise architecture, Business Intelligence; Data quality, security and governance; building organisational capability; application of data analytics to strategy and decision making; data-driven organisational culture.
Business Intelligence concepts: motivation for BI; BI lifecycle models and approaches; privacy, ethical and legal issues.
Applied BI and analytics: components of common BI system architectures; data integration and the extraction, transform, load (ETL) process; security issues; data warehouse modelling and implementation success factors; Market basket analysis, data mining and associative rule mining; modelling customer behaviour and predictions; cluster analysis and outlier detection; knowledge discovery.
