Course aim

To develop students’ understanding of social media as a communication channel, to critically analyse the role and prevalence of social media in contemporary society and to develop students’ awareness of their personal social media brand.

Course content

Students will be introduced to the concept of social media as a communication tool that traverses their professional and private lives. The course will encourage students to move beyond the role of social media user to critically evaluate their social media usage and profile, and to develop awareness of social media as a communication strategy used by many organisations. Weekly activities and assessments will encourage students to consider how social media is used in a range of professional contexts, drawing upon scholarly material, case studies and industry best practice.
