Course aim

To examine the historical development of digital technologies and the impact of the digital on traditional media formats, popular culture, identity and the social.

Course content

This course expands student understanding of digital media by considering how the digital intersects with issues of space, locality, personal, cultural and public life. Mapping the historic development of digital media, students will examine how the digital has transformed traditional screen media formats and popular culture by giving rise to new forms of space, time, technology, aesthetics and story-telling. Drawing on interdisciplinary studies of the digital, students will examine how the digital mediates everyday life and the role of digital in negotiating contemporary issues in the social sphere.
