Course aim

To introduce students to the fundamental approaches to human communication, and to the development, use and role of communication and media technologies in human society.

Course content

Students will be introduced to various theories of communication and media and the ideas and concepts of seminal thinkers in the field of communication and media studies. The course explains how theoretical approaches to communication and the media are applied in a range of communication professions, practices and situations, and examines the development and use of communication and media in society.  It introduces essential elements of the social, political, economic  and technological role of communication to prepare students for more advanced study.
