Course aim
To develop specialised knowledge for responding to childhood trauma and apply trauma-focused skills required to assist children to resolve trauma from abuse.
Course content
This course will cover trauma-informed and evidence-informed strategies for assisting children and young people to manage the impacts of trauma across a range of areas, such as sleeping and eating difficulties, emotional regulation, relationship building, managing painful memories, and identity development. Content will also include working with caregivers to support children and young people impacted by trauma and managing risk issues. Content will cover creating trauma-informed case plans for children and young people and common barriers (and solutions) when responding to childhood trauma. Reflective practice will be extended upon within this course content from previous courses.
