UO Politics and Citizenship in Australia

Course aim
To enable the student to develop an understanding of government and citizenship in Australia.
Course content
Students will be introduced to the structures and processes of Australian politics and demonstrate an understanding of Federalism and the Commonwealth and State constitutions; historical context of Australian political culture; the judicial system; the parliamentary system; the executive; democracy and citizenship; political parties and political participation; citizenship and human rights and social justice; and the position of Aboriginal people in the Australian political system.
