Course aim

The aim of this course is to allow students to investigate and experience the different types of management problems and decisions that exist in organisations today, the characteristics of different types of problem solvers and decision makers and how these characteristics might influence individual and group decision making for a range of management problems and decisions. Students will also consider different approaches, tools and techniques to support creativity and innovation in problem solving and decision making and consider the value of these based on the types of problems and decisions and the characteristics of the management problem solver and decision maker. Students will work autonomously and collaboratively as a decision maker.

Course content

Types of problems and decisions (structured through to complex), types of problem solvers and decision makers (decision styles, worldviews) approaches to problem solving and decision making, creativity and innovation in problem solving and decision making, tools and techniques to support problem solving and decision making. Collaborative and individual decision making.
