Course aim

To build on the students’ knowledge of the technological innovations within the Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museum (GLAM) sector with respect to the principles, philosophies and practices that inform the sector.

Course content

Students will learn how the contemporary world of galleries, libraries, archives and museums is changing in dynamic, innovative and often outrageous ways. They will examine the reasons why objects are no longer always protected within glass boxes and contemporary curators are turning their institutions upside-down with ‘visitor centric’ exhibitions designed on the principles of ‘radical trust’ and ‘play’. Students will critically examine online exhibitions and GLAM spaces in order to understand how and why the GLAM sector seeks to encourage ‘citizen generated’ heritage and art projects.
