UO Research Methods for Public Health

Course aim

Develop knowledge and skills for evidence-informed practice, policy and research within the context of public health. 

Course content

Principles, philosophies and processes which underpin evidence-based practice; quantitative and qualitative research paradigms, methods and methodologies; reliability, validity and rigour in data collection; types of data; statistical concepts such as hypothesis generation, probability, variance, error and tests for determining differences and associations; Using structured frameworks to ask an answerable question, searching of literature, hierarchy of evidence and critical appraisal; Issues to consider for implementation and translation of evidence into practice and policy.
